learn about Eastwell Foundation
The Eastwell Foundation is a non-profit organization committed to promoting the health and well-being of individuals, their families, and the community through prevention, intervention, and education in East Africa.
Natural and human-made disasters have impacted East Africa for a long time, and a significant number of the population is affected by the trauma of war and poverty. According to the World Health Organization, certain East African countries have a higher prevalence of mental, neurological and substance-use disorders. The need for an integrated, mental health system and professionally trained mental health providers thus cannot be overlooked. Eastwell Foundation is responding to this urgent need through the following objectives:
To promote awareness and an understanding of mental health needs in East African countries
To build capacity and support the work of hospitals and community centers with highly qualified mental health professionals in the treatment of behavioral health disorders
Organize seminars and workshops on mental health issues for general medical practitioners, schoolteachers, health care workers, community leaders, policy makers, and other stakeholders
Conduct research on various psycho-social and behavioral health related issues, including a survey on the prevalence of psychiatric conditions and other social determinants of health in East Africa
Set up mental health sites where psychiatric and psychological assessment, consultation, and medicines are provided free-of-charge
To develop and establish successful partnerships with local clinics, practitioners, hospitals, psychiatric health services, and other governmental organizations. We want to affirm our intense affinity for the East African community and dedication to its mental health goals. These relationships enable us to provide education, intervention, and the best possible evidence-based practice treatment to individuals, families, and our entire community.
